The 95th Academy Awards

 "And the Oscar goes to..."

The 95th Academy Awards took place on March 12th, 2023, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The night was full of excitement and celebration, with a star-studded guest list, impressive performances, and well-deserved winners.

One of the main reasons why Everything Everywhere All at Once won Best Picture is its ability to appeal to a broad audience. The film features a unique blend of action, comedy, drama, and fantasy that appeals to a wide range of moviegoers. It's a film that is both entertaining and thought-provoking, which is a rare combination.

In addition to its broad appeal, Everything Everywhere All at Once features an impressive ensemble cast led by Michelle Yeoh. Each character is well-developed and offers a different perspective on the film's themes, adding depth and complexity to the story. The film's visuals are also stunning, with expertly crafted action scenes and mesmerizing special effects.

Overall, Everything Everywhere All at Once is a film that has something for everyone, and its blend of genres and themes makes it a strong contender for Best Picture. With its broad appeal, strong performances, and stunning visuals, it's no wonder that it has become a fan favorite and is highly anticipated by moviegoers. I am glad that it came out on top on Oscar night, it was my favourite! :)

Red Carpet Highlights

As always, the red carpet was a highlight of the night, with many of Hollywood's brightest stars showing off their fashion choices. Some of the most notable looks included:

Michelle Yeoh, who won Best Actress for her role in "Everything Everywhere All at Once," stunned in a sparkling silver gown by Elie Saab.

Jamie Lee Curtis, who won Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Everything Everywhere All at Once," looked elegant in her sparkly tan dress.

Cate Blanchett, who was nominated for Best Actress for her role in "Tar," made a statement in her Louis Vuitton dress.

I would also like to add that Salma Hayek turned heads in her shiny gown.

Lady Gaga was quite vampy in her sheer Versace dress.

But it wasn't just about the women's fashion. The men also brought their A-game, with Colin Farrell looking dapper in a classic tuxedo and Austin Butler adding a modern twist with a white tuxedo jacket and black pants.

Performances

The Academy Awards are always a showcase for incredible musical performances, and this year was no exception. Some of the standout performances included:

Rihanna, who performed "Lift Me Up" from the soundtrack of "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever." She was joined on stage by a group of dancers, and her powerful vocals brought the audience to their feet.

Lady Gaga, who performed "Hold My Hand" from the soundtrack of "Top Gun: Maverick." She wore a stunning red gown and was accompanied by a full orchestra, making for a truly memorable performance.

Kaala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj, who won Best Original Song for "Naatu Naatu" from the film "RRR," gave a lively and energetic performance of the song on stage.

93. Akademi Ödülleri (The 93rd Academy Awards)

 "And the Oscar goes to..."

No one was quite excited for the show considering what is happening around the world. The date was already changed, they did not use the same venue and no one knew whether it would take place online or not.

Bryan Cranston, İnsanlık Ödülü'nü takdim etti, Parazit'in yönetmeni Bong Joon-ho En İyi Yönetmen dalındaki adayların film yapımı hakkındaki düşüncelerini paylaştı.

However, it turned out to be entertaining. Regina King did the opening -her monologue was great as she spoke about the people of colour- and the presenters also seemed to be enjoying their duty. The ceremony felt more intimate as compared to the previous ones and it was less stuffy. Bryan Cranston presented the Humanitarian Award, Parasite director Bong Joon-ho shared what the nominees of Best Director category thinks of filmmaking.

I must also say that it felt a bit rushed. For instance, In Memoriam montage was quite short and fast and I found it to be disrespectful. Besides, the last category was the "Best Actor in a Leading Role", not the "Best Picture" as we are used to and Anthony Hopkins was not even there to receive his award which gave an abrupt ending to the ceremony.

Hiç kimse, ben dahil, Anthony Hopkins'in kazanmasını beklemedik.

No one, including me, expected Anthony Hopkins to win, not that he was bad at acting but Chadwick Boseman would deserve to be commemorated one more time and win an posthumous Oscar. However, it was quite a shock that Mr. Hopkins won and he also broke the record of Christopher Plummer as the oldest winner of the award at 83.

Benim en eğlendiğim an Yuh-Jung Youn'un "En İyi Yardımcı Kadın Oyuncu" ödülünü aldığı andı.

For me, the most enjoyable moment was when Yuh-Jung Youn won the award for the "Best Actress in a Supporting Role". She flirted with Brad Pitt and praised all the other nominees as well.

Polis memuru diye birinden nefret etmeyi reddediyorum. Asyalı diye birinden nefret etmeyi reddediyorum. Hepimizin nefret etmeyi reddedeceğini umuyorum".

Also I should mention Tyler Perry's speech as well. He won an honorary Oscar and spoke against hate. It was quite moving and I want to quote him: "My mother taught me to refuse hate. She taught me to refuse blanket judgment. And in this time, and with all of the internet and social media and algorithms and everything that wants us to think a certain way, the 24-hour news cycle, it is my hope that all of us will teach our kids … just refuse hate. Don’t hate anybody. I refuse to hate someone because they are Mexican or because they are Black or white or LGBTQ. I refuse to hate someone because they are a police officer. I refuse to hate someone because they are Asian. I would hope that we would refuse hate".

Benim favorime gelirsek, kesinlikle adaylıkları ilk gördüğüm andan beri Nomadland ve Frances McDormand'ın kazanmasını istiyordum. Şanslı bir şekilde kazandılar! Ayrıca "En İyi Animasyon Film" ödülünü kazanan "Soul" filmini izlemediyseniz hayatınız yarım kalmış demektir ve izlerken gözyaşlarınızı silmek için peçete istiflemeyi unutmayın.

When it comes to my favourite nominees, I wanted Nomadland and Francis McDormand to win the moment the moment I saw the nominations. Luckily, they won! And if you haven't seen Soul, which won the Best Animated Feature Film, your life is incomplete and also stock up on tissues to wipe your tears while watching.

Gönderimi kazananlar listesiyle bitirmeden önce kırmızı halıdan bazı favorilerimi de ekliyorum:

Before I finish my post with the winners, I will also add some of my favourite looks from the red carpet:

Carey Mulligan (Valentino)

Amanda Seyfried (Armani Privé)

Halle Berry (Dolce & Gabbana)

Zendaya (Valentino)

Margot Robbie (Chanel Haute Couture)

Viola Davis (Alexander McQueen)

92. Akademi Ödülleri (The 92nd Academy Awards)

"And the Oscar goes to..."

It's actually been a long time since I last enjoyed this ceremony. I'm literally happy with all the picks in all the categories. Before moving onto the award ceremony, I'd like to talk about the red carpet because all the nominees looked quite ravishing. Besides, Natalie Portman had a Dior gown, on which the names of female directors who were not nominated at the ceremony were embroidered. It was a great way to honour them.

Charlize Theron in Dior Haute Couture and Tiffany & Co. jewelry

Margot Robbie in Chanel

Renée Zellweger in Armani Privé

Brie Larson in Celine and Bulgari jewelry

Natalie Portman in Dior Haute Couture and Cartier

Penélope Cruz in Chanel and Swarovski jewelry

Janelle Monáe in Ralph Lauren

Buradan izleyebilirsiniz. Kristen Wiig ve Maya Rudolph da komikti. Onları da buradan izleyebilirsiniz. Seyirciler üzerinde büyük etkisi olan an, Eminem'in sahneye çıktığı an kesinlikle.

There weren't any hosts this year just like the previous one. I actually do not care about this because all the award presenters were quite funny and I think that way the ceremony does not continue any longer than it should. I really enjoyed the opening show Janelle Monáe put out. She included dancers dressed as the cast from all the Best Picture nominees. You can watch it here. Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph were also hilarious. You can also watch them here. What had a big effect on the audience is actually the moment Eminem stepped out on the stage. He won an Oscar for "Lose Yourself" 18 years ago but he didn't attend the ceremony thinking that it would be in vain because there was no chance for him to win. He missed out on this and now after all these years, he came back to do what he couldn't do back then. Everyone was surprised, it was kept like a secret and I was way too much happy to witness this. You can watch his performance here. Then there was an "In Memoriam" montage where they honoured the people who passed away. Billie Eilish sang "Yesterday" during that scene. I can't say that I enjoyed her performance. Also Luke Perry was not shown in the video and I have no idea why.

I got to see all the nominees in the biggest categories so I'm frankly happy that all my favourites were picked. I just thought that Sam Mendes would won the Oscar as the Best Director but it went to "Parasite" yet again I'm okay with that because it was my number one film in all the nominations. So happy to see that for the first time a non-English win has won the Best Picture award.

91. Akademi Ödülleri (The 91st Academy Awards)

"And the Oscar goes to..."

Her yıl iple çektiğim Oscar gecesi nihayet geldi geçti.

The Oscars night that I always countdown has come and passed. Besides, it did not surprise me this time and I'm quite happy with the results :)

When it comes to the Academy Awards, you can't ignore the celebrities walking down the red carpet with their gowns :) I'll now share some of my favourites. I didn't see as many great dresses as I did last year by the way. However, I liked what Jennifer Lopez and Regina King wore the most.

Jennifer Lopez (Tom Ford)

Regina King (Oscar de la Renta)

Lady Gaga (Alexander McQueen)

Emilia Clarke (Balmain)

A Star Is Born filmi de bana geçmedi mesela. Ben giderek duygusuzlaşıyorum sanırım :)

There was no presenter this time. Therefore, the program seemed to roll easily. However, I couldn't help but wonder how it would've been different if Ellen or Jimmy Killen were to host. Adam Lambert's opening act was quite successful. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper were also fine but I got tired of seeing and listening to them everywhere. I wasn't moved by A Star Is Born either. I think I'm becoming numb day by day :)

A Star Is Born ya da BlacKkKlansman filmlerinin neden aday olduğunu bile hala düşünüyorum.

My favourite was Bohemian Rhapsody like everyone else. Even if it failed to get an Oscar for the Best Picture, I knew Rami Malek qould at least get something. Thus, as a back-up plan, I picked a second film that might also win and it was Green Book. It is literally an "on the road" film. The actors are also amazing. All in all, what I guessed came to life :) I never wanted Roma to win because it was already nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film category. I think that such a challenging category should be won by a challenging film. I still think how on earth they nominated A Star Is Born or BlacKkKlansman as the Best Picture.

Şimdi fazla uzatmadan kazananları listeleyip işinizi kolaylaştırayım :) Seneye görüşmek üzere!

Now I won't talk much and list all the winners to make it easier for you :) See you next year!

90. Akademi Ödülleri (The 90th Academy Awards)

"And the Oscar goes to..."

I love counting down to Oscars night because it always makes me happy. It surely does not set standarts or praise a film and dispraise the rest. It is just a show but I would love it even more if I believed in their sincerity and equality.

Before I dwell into anything, I'd like to talk about the red carpet ceremony. I loved some of the dresses and my favourites were definitely Jane Fonda and Taraji P. Henson.

Zendaya (Giambattista Valli)                    Taraji P. Henson (Vera Wang)

Jane Fonda (Balmain)                          Jennifer Garner (Atelier Versace)

Lupita Nyong'o (Atelier Versace)                          Margot Robbie (Chanel)

Molly Sims (Rene Caovilla)                           Gina Rodriguez (Zuhair Murad)

Gal Gadot (Givenchy)                             Allison Janney (Reem Acra)

Gece sonunda kazanan Mark Bridges oldu.

Jimmy Kimmel was the host of this year and I wasn't sure if he would manage it but he did it well. His references to Trump, the way he underlined equality and his sense of humour were on point. He even promised to gift a jet ski for the shortest acceptance speech. It was a hilarious moment. He presented it along Helen Mirren. The winner was Mark Bridges at the end of the night.

"A Wrinkle In Time" filmini seyredenlerden oluşan bir sinemaya gizli kamera koymuşlardı.

One of the things that surprised me and rendered this night special was not only the fact that it was the 90th birthday of this event but also they hid cameras into a cinema where people were watching "A Wrinkle In Time". They wanted to emphasize the fact that without filmgoers, none of them would matter. The cinema is a mutual experience so he wanted to celebrate it by surprising them with the celebrities. Some of the guests went with Jimmy Kimmel and they brought snacks as well. First Gal Gadot entered and everyone cheered. Then the screen showed the people at the Oscars and they thanked the filmgoers. Later the other celebrities walked in handing out the snacks. It must have felt very different for the audience there. It's once in a lifetime experience!

Frances McDormand'ın ödül kabul konuşmasından da bahsetmek istiyorum. Onu çok seviyorum ve çok yetenekli birisi. Hala filminin nasıl "En İyi Film" ödülünü kazanmadığını merak ediyorum. Eşitliğin önemli olduğunu ve "inclusion rider" diye tabir edilen film çekimlerinde cinsiyet eşitliği maddesini vurguladı. Umarım bu mesaj güçlü mevkiide olanlara dokunmuştur.

I also want to mention Frances McDormand's acceptance speech. I love her so much and she is really talented. I'm still surprised at the fact that her film failed to win the "Best Picture" award. She wanted to show that equality matters and I hope her "inclusion rider" message at the end affected some people with high power.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri benim için gecenin kazananı.

My predictions usually turn out to be right but this year one thing really disappointed me. I knew that Guillermo Del Toro would win some of his nominations but he did not deserve to win "Best Picture" award. It counts as a transgression for me since the film is about a woman falling in love with a weird creature. I understand that he loves making fantastic films and he is quite good at it. However, this is too much and just because a mute woman and an other worldly creature are outcasts, it does not mean that they have to end up together. It feels forced and the ending at the water did not move me, instead it bothered the hell out of me! Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri is the winner for me.
