How to Get to Portofino

From Istanbul to Rome 

If you're flying from Istanbul, the most convenient route is to take a flight to Rome. From Rome, you can catch a train to Santa Margherita Ligure, the nearest major town to Portofino. The train journey offers scenic views of the Italian countryside and coast, making it a delightful start to your trip.

Alternative Routes

For a more direct approach, you can fly into Genoa, which is closer to Portofino. From Genoa, it's about a 45-minute drive or a short train ride to Santa Margherita Ligure, followed by a charming bus or ferry ride to Portofino.

Via Cinque Terre

On my trip, I took a train from the stunning Cinque Terre to Santa Margherita Ligure. This route is particularly scenic, passing through picturesque coastal villages and offering glimpses of the azure Ligurian Sea.

Ferry to Portofino

To reach Portofino from Santa Margherita Ligure, you’ll need to take a ferry. Ferries run frequently, especially during the summer months, with departures every 20-30 minutes. The ferry ride offers stunning coastal views and takes about 15 minutes. A one-way ticket costs approximately €8 and return ticket costs €14, making it an affordable and scenic option. The ferry departs from the main harbour in Santa Margherita Ligure, and tickets can be purchased at the dock or online in advance. The last ferry is at 9 PM, so it is better to take a train back if you are visiting Portofino only for a day.

From Rapallo

Rapallo is another excellent starting point for reaching Portofino. You can easily reach Rapallo by train or car. From there, it's a short train ride to Santa Margherita Ligure, or you can take a direct ferry to Portofino. Ferries from Rapallo run frequently during the summer months, offering a scenic 30-minute journey along the coast. Tickets can be purchased at the dock or online.

Exploring Portofino: Must-Visit Spots

Piazza Martiri dell’Olivetta

Start your adventure at the heart of Portofino, Piazza Martiri dell’Olivetta. This charming square is bustling with vibrant cafes and boutique shops. I spent a delightful afternoon there while watching the boats bob in the harbour.

Castello Brown

For breathtaking views of the coastline, a visit to Castello Brown is a must. This historical castle, perched on a hill, offers panoramic vistas that are simply unforgettable. There is an entry price but it certainly worth visiting. The current price is €5.

Church of San Giorgio

Another highlight is the Church of San Giorgio. This beautiful church not only boasts stunning architecture but also provides another fantastic viewpoint over the harbour. It's a short hike up, but the views are well worth the effort.

Dining in Portofino: What to Eat and Drink

Portofino Bistrot

When it comes to dining, Portofino Bistrot is a personal favourite. Located right by the water, this charming eatery serves up some of the freshest seafood you'll ever taste. While I didn't try the seafood myself, it's a local favourite and highly recommended by many. For my fellow vegetarians, their pasta dishes and salads are delightful, with plenty of fresh, local ingredients.

Gelaterie Gepi

Who wouldn't want to eat an ice-cream while strolling around the streets of Portofino? There are various flavours and it is hard to choose a favourite one! 😊 I tried out 2 scoops of ice cream in a cone and paid €6.

Drinks: Aperol Spritz and More

When in Portofino, you must try an Aperol Spritz, the quintessential Italian aperitif. It's perfect for sipping while enjoying the sunset by the harbour. If you're in the mood for something different, the local white wines, such as Vermentino, are also excellent choices.

Final Tips for Your Portofino Adventure

Best Time to Visit: Spring and autumn are ideal for pleasant weather and fewer crowds. However, if you're a fan of swimming and soaking up the sun, July is perfect for enjoying the sea and the vibrant summer atmosphere. I visited in July, and the warm waters and lively beach scene were just what I needed for a summer escape.

Getting Around: Portofino is best explored on foot. Wear comfortable shoes, as the village's narrow streets and pathways are perfect for strolling.

Car Rental: If you plan to explore beyond Portofino, renting a car can be a great option. It offers the flexibility to visit nearby attractions at your own pace. Just be aware that parking in Portofino can be limited, so plan accordingly.

Accommodation: Book your stay in advance, especially during peak season, as options can fill up quickly.

Different Options: You can also try out exclusive activities with small groups such as paddleboarding with breathtaking views (click here for more information) or aboard a catamaran to discover beautiful corners (click here to see the details).

İstanbul'dan uçuyorsanız, en uygun rota Roma'ya uçmak olacaktır. Roma'dan, Portofino'ya en yakın kasaba olan Santa Margherita Ligure'ye trenle geçebilirsiniz. Tren yolculuğu, size bolca İtalyan manzarası sunacaktır o yüzden yolculuğunuzun çok keyifli geçecektir. 😍

Alternatif Rotalar

Yolu bir nebze azaltmak için, Portofino'ya daha yakın olan Genoa'ya uçabilirsiniz. Genoa'dan, Santa Margherita Ligure'ye yaklaşık 45 dakikalık bir araba yolculuğu veya kısa bir tren yolculuğu yapabilir, ardından otobüs veya feribotla Portofino'ya ulaşabilirsiniz.

San Giorgio Kilisesi

Yemek konusunda, Portofino Bistrot favorim. Ligurya denizi kenarında bulunan bu şirin lokanta, tadabileceğiniz en taze deniz ürünlerini sunuyor. Kendim deniz ürünlerini denemedim ama oraya gidenlerin favorisiydi ve birçok kişi tarafından tavsiye ediliyor. Benim gibi vejetaryen arkadaşlarım için de makarna ve salata seçeneklerini öneririm. Hepsi taze ve çok lezzetliydi. Domates sosunun tadını hala hatırlıyorum. 🤤

Gelaterie Gepi

Portofino sokaklarında dolaşırken dondurma yemeyi kim istemez ki? 😊 Pek çok çeşit arasından seçim yapmak zor oluyor. Ben külahta iki top dondurma yedim ve €6 ödedim.

İçecekler: Aperol Spritz ve Diğerleri

Portofino'dayken mutlaka bir Aperol Spritz denemelisiniz, bu İtalya'nın olmazsa olmazıdır. Limanda gün batımını izlerken yudumlamak için mükemmel bir seçenektir. Farklı şeyler denemek isterseniz, yerel beyaz şaraplar, özellikle Vermentino, size önerim.

Portofino Seyahatiniz İçin Diğer İpuçları

En İyi Zaman: İlkbahar ve sonbahar dönemleri hem ılıman bir hava ve hem de daha az kalabalık olacağı için idealdir. Marsilya Seyahati (Marseille Trip) 2024

Hello from the city of soap and lavender! 😊

Welcome to Marseille, a sunny city in the south of France! It's a place where you can walk through old streets, smell delicious food, and see amazing views. In this blogpost, we'll explore the colorful neighborhoods, visit famous sights, and taste yummy dishes. From the busy old port to the peaceful beaches, Marseille has lots to offer. Let's explore this wonderful city together!

I stayed there for 4 days 3 nights with my friend. It is a convenient period of time to visit all the places you want to see when you are in Marseille. We found a room through Booking and stayed near the Vieux Port which was also quite suitable when it comes to walking around and going back home since buses do not serve after a certain time. We bought "Le Ticket" from machines and selected "72 hours" long ticket which allows you to use it as many times as you like for 72 hours for any type of transportation. You should also buy a different ticket when you land from Ticket Offices for L91 shuttle to get to St. Charles.

Things to do in Marseille

Visit Vieux Port: This is called the "old port" of Marseille. It has a lively atmosphere with colourful boats which makes it a great place to walk.

Walk the streets: There are a lot of charming streets that give you warmth and you can explore some shops and cafes in these hidden spots.

Watch out for pop-up markets: It was wonderful to come across pop-up markets at Vieux Port. One day you can see flowers and one day you can be welcomed by the smell of soap & lavender and if you are lucky enough, you may try out cheese and some other delicious food.

Explore the soap museum: The museum is called "La Savonnerie Marseillaise de La Licorne" and you can see the details here. The entrance is 2,5 Euros and they also give you a bar of soap for free.

What to see in Marseille

Notre-Dame de la Garde: Visit this famous basilica for its amazing views of the city.

Palais Longchamp: Explore this historic building and it is is not only a beautiful monument but also holds significant importance in Marseille's history. Built in the 19th century, it was commissioned to celebrate the completion of the Canal de Marseille, which brought much-needed water to the city. Marseille had long faced water shortages and sanitation issues, and the construction of the canal and reservoirs at Palais Longchamp helped alleviate these problems, ensuring a more reliable water supply for the growing city.

Cathédrale de la Major: Take a look at Marseille's biggest cathedral, known for its impressive design and sincere atmosphere.

Parc Borely: Enjoy a relaxing day in Parc Borely, a beautiful park located in the south of Marseille. 

Ville Charité: Explore Ville Charité, a historic site known for its significance in Marseille's cultural heritage. Dating back to the 17th century, Ville Charité served as a charitable institution providing aid to the city's less fortunate residents. Its architecture reflects the compassion and community spirit that have shaped Marseille's identity over the centuries, making it an important symbol of social solidarity.

Where to eat in Marseille

Since I'm a vegetarian, I cannot really offer you any place for all the dishes but I certainly recommend the restaurants around Place Thiars with the fountain. I had a cheese board along with a bottle of house wine at Le Caribou and it was satisfactory. I also recommend Splendido which is an Italian restaurant that belongs to Big Mamma's Group. For breakfast, I can recommend you Bring Me My Coffee, Biba and Cafe La Muse.

What to buy in Marseille

Marseille Soap: Buy some authentic Marseille soap, made from olive oil and with some lovely scents from green tea to almond.

Lavender Sachets: Capture the fragrance of Provence with lavender sachets, perfect for keeping clothes and linens smelling fresh.

Local Delicacies: Treat yourself to some local treats like olive oil, marmalade, herbs, or sweets to remember your trip.

Fransa'nın güneyinde güneşli bir şehir olan Marsilya'ya hoş geldiniz! Burası tarihi sokaklarında keyifle dolaşabileceğiniz, lezzetli yemeklerin kokusunu alabileceğiniz ve harika manzaraları görebileceğiniz bir yer. Bu blog yazısında, Marsilya'nın renkli mahallelerini keşfedecek, ünlü yerlerini ziyaret edecek ve lezzetli yemekleri nerede tadacağımızı öğreneceğiz. Hello from the city of hot air balloons!

Cappadocia is a unique and stunning region and there are plenty of things to do, see, and eat while you're there. Whether you're interested in history, culture, or simply want to enjoy the incredible natural scenery, there's something for everyone.

Things to do in Cappadocia

One of the most popular things to do in Cappadocia is to take a hot air balloon ride over the region. This is a truly breathtaking experience that will allow you to see the stunning rock formations and otherworldly landscape from a unique perspective. If you're looking for a more adventurous way to experience the landscape, you can also take a horseback or ATV tour, or even go hiking in the valleys and canyons. I didn't feel like taking a balloon tour because the prices were fairly high as opposed to off-season period. The experience cost 200 Euros but it might cost less if you drop by around February.

For those interested in history and culture, there are plenty of ancient sites to visit in Cappadocia. The Goreme Open-Air Museum is a UNESCO World Heritage site and features stunning frescoes and rock-cut churches dating back to the 10th century. You can also visit the Kaymakli Underground City, an ancient underground city that was used as a refuge by early Christians. You can pay a visit to Derinkuyu as well for that matter. And don't miss the opportunity to see the fairy chimneys, the iconic rock formations that Cappadocia is known.

What to see in Cappadocia

Cappadocia is full of incredible sights to see, from the stunning landscapes to the ancient architecture. One of the must-see attractions in the region is the Goreme National Park, which features the iconic fairy chimneys as well as other unique rock formations. The Zelve Open-Air Museum is another popular destination, featuring a complex of cave dwellings and rock-cut churches.

If you're interested in ancient history, be sure to visit the Kaymakli Underground City or the Derinkuyu Underground City, which was once home to thousands of people. And don't miss the chance to see the incredible frescoes and rock-cut churches at the Goreme Open-Air Museum.

What to eat in Cappadocia

Cappadocian cuisine is a delicious blend of Turkish and Mediterranean flavors, and there are plenty of local specialties to try. One of the most famous dishes in the region is testi kebab, which is a slow-cooked lamb or beef stew served in a clay pot. Other popular dishes include manti, a type of Turkish dumpling, and gozleme, a savory pastry filled with cheese and vegetables.

Cappadocia is an incredible destination full of history, culture, and stunning natural beauty. Whether you're interested in taking a hot air balloon ride, exploring ancient sites, or trying delicious local cuisine, there's something for everyone in this unique and fascinating region. Personally, I quite enjoyed Seki and Millocal Restaurant.

Where to stay in Cappadocia

As soon as I stepped into Wish Cappadocia, I knew I was in for a memorable experience. This boutique hotel, situated in the heart of Cappadocia, was everything I could have wished for in terms of comfort, luxury, and location.

One of the things that stood out to me about Wish Cappadocia was its unique design. The hotel is built into a hillside and features cave rooms and suites, each with its own distinct personality and charm. My room had a cozy and intimate feel to it, with stone walls and arches, a comfortable bed, and all the amenities I could need for my stay.

The hotel's staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, providing me with recommendations on what to see and do in the area.

The hotel's location is also worth noting. Wish Cappadocia is located in the charming town of Urgup, which is within easy reach of all the major sights and attractions of Cappadocia. I was able to explore the fairy chimneys of Göreme, the underground cities of Derinkuyu, and the stunning rock formations of Pasabag, all within a short drive from the hotel.

Overall, my stay at Wish Cappadocia was a highlight of my trip. The hotel's unique design, friendly staff, and convenient location made it the perfect base for exploring this magical region. I highly recommend Wish Cappadocia to anyone looking for a luxurious and memorable experience in this area.

PS: It is a bit hard to discover the city if you don't have a car. I suggest renting a car before you fly to Cappadocia.

Kapadokya'da yapılacak en popüler şeylerden biri sıcak hava balonu turu yapmak. Bu kesinlikle bambaşka bir deneyim ve yukarıdan manzarayı görmeniz için fırsat. Buna ek olarak Derinkuyu'yu da ziyaret edebilirsiniz. Ve tabii ki Kapadokya'nın simgesi olan peribacalarını da görmeyi es geçmeyin.

Kapadokya'da Ne Yenir?

Kapadokya mutfağı, Türk ve Akdeniz lezzetlerinin lezzetli bir karışımı diyebiliriz ve denemeniz gereken birçok yerel lezzet var. Bölgedeki en ünlü yemeklerden biri testi kebabı. Çömlek kapta yavaş pişirilmiş kuzu veya dana eti servis ediliyor. Diğer popüler yemekler arasında mantı ve gözleme bulunuyor. Ben şahsi olarak Seki ve Millocal restoranlarından çok keyif aldım.

Kapadokya'da Nerede Kalınır?

Wish Cappadocia'ya adım attığım anda unutulmaz bir deneyim yaşayacağımı biliyordum. Kapadokya'nın merkezinde bulunan bu butik otel, konfor, lüks ve konum açısından dileyebileceğim her şeye sahipti.

Wish Cappadocia hakkında dikkatimi çeken şeylerden biri mağara odalarıydı. Bu otantik diyebileceğim odalarda taş duvar, rahat bir yatak ve konaklamam için ihtiyaç duyabileceğim tüm olanaklar vardı.
