"And the Oscar goes to..."
Dünyada olanları düşününce bu sene kimse Oscar töreni için heyecanlı değildi açıkçası. Tarihi de değişti, aynı mekanı da kullanmadılar ve hiç kimse bunun çevrimiçi olup olmayacağını bilmiyordu.
No one was quite excited for the show considering what is happening around the world. The date was already changed, they did not use the same venue and no one knew whether it would take place online or not.
Yine de eğlenceli bir tören oldu. Regina King açılışı yaptı, konuşması çok güzeldi ve siyahilerden bahsetti. Diğer sunucular da görevlerini eğlenerek yapıyor gibiydi. However, it turned out to be entertaining. Regina King did the opening -her monologue was great as she spoke about the people of colour- and the presenters also seemed to be enjoying their duty. The ceremony felt more intimate as compared to the previous ones and it was less stuffy. Bryan Cranston presented the Humanitarian Award, Parasite director Bong Joon-ho shared what the nominees of Best Director category thinks of filmmaking.
Fakat şunu da söylemem gerekiyor ki tören biraz aceleye getirilmiş gibiydi. Örneğin, "In Memoriam" yani ölenlerin anıldığı montaj çok kısa ve hızlıydı. Bunu da biraz saygısızca buldum açıkçası. Ayrıca en son kategori "En İyi Erkek Oyuncu" ödülüydü halbuki "En İyi Film" ödülü olması gerekiyordu. Üstelik Anthony Hopkins ödülünü almak için orada bile değildi ve bu da gösteriyi aniden bitirdi.
I must also say that it felt a bit rushed. For instance, In Memoriam montage was quite short and fast and I found it to be disrespectful. Besides, the last category was the "Best Actor in a Leading Role", not the "Best Picture" as we are used to and Anthony Hopkins was not even there to receive his award which gave an abrupt ending to the ceremony.
Hiç kimse, ben dahil, Anthony Hopkins'in kazanmasını beklemedik. Oyunculuğu kötü değildi ama Chadwick Boseman öldüğü için "poshumous" denen, öldükten sonra kazanılan Oscar ödülünü alır sanmıştık. No one, including me, expected Anthony Hopkins to win, not that he was bad at acting but Chadwick Boseman would deserve to be commemorated one more time and win an posthumous Oscar. However, it was quite a shock that Mr. Hopkins won and he also broke the record of Christopher Plummer as the oldest winner of the award at 83.
Benim en eğlendiğim an Yuh-Jung Youn'un "En İyi Yardımcı Kadın Oyuncu" ödülünü aldığı andı. Brad Pitt ile flörtleşti ve kendiyle aynı dalda yarışan diğer adayları da övmeyi ihmal etmedi.
For me, the most enjoyable moment was when Yuh-Jung Youn won the award for the "Best Actress in a Supporting Role". She flirted with Brad Pitt and praised all the other nominees as well.
Tyler Perry'nin konuşmasından da bahsetmek istiyorum. Onur Oscar'ı kazandı ve nefret karşıtı bir şekilde konuştu. Also I should mention Tyler Perry's speech as well. He won an honorary Oscar and spoke against hate. It was quite moving and I want to quote him: "My mother taught me to refuse hate. She taught me to refuse blanket judgment. And in this time, and with all of the internet and social media and algorithms and everything that wants us to think a certain way, the 24-hour news cycle, it is my hope that all of us will teach our kids … just refuse hate. Don’t hate anybody. I refuse to hate someone because they are Mexican or because they are Black or white or LGBTQ. I refuse to hate someone because they are a police officer. I refuse to hate someone because they are Asian. I would hope that we would refuse hate".
Benim favorime gelirsek, kesinlikle adaylıkları ilk gördüğüm andan beri Nomadland ve Frances McDormand'ın kazanmasını istiyordum. Şanslı bir şekilde kazandılar! When it comes to my favourite nominees, I wanted Nomadland and Francis McDormand to win the moment the moment I saw the nominations. Luckily, they won! And if you haven't seen Soul, which won the Best Animated Feature Film, your life is incomplete and also stock up on tissues to wipe your tears while watching.
