Today, I'm thrilled to take you on a virtual journey to Portofino. Having visited this gem on the Italian Riviera, I'm excited to share my experiences and tips to help you make the most of your trip. From travel tips to must-visit spots and dining options, let's dive in!

How to Get to Portofino

From Istanbul to Rome 

If you're flying from Istanbul, the most convenient route is to take a flight to Rome. From Rome, you can catch a train to Santa Margherita Ligure, the nearest major town to Portofino. The train journey offers scenic views of the Italian countryside and coast, making it a delightful start to your trip.

Alternative Routes

For a more direct approach, you can fly into Genoa, which is closer to Portofino. From Genoa, it's about a 45-minute drive or a short train ride to Santa Margherita Ligure, followed by a charming bus or ferry ride to Portofino.

Via Cinque Terre

On my trip, I took a train from the stunning Cinque Terre to Santa Margherita Ligure. This route is particularly scenic, passing through picturesque coastal villages and offering glimpses of the azure Ligurian Sea.

Ferry to Portofino

To reach Portofino from Santa Margherita Ligure, you’ll need to take a ferry. Ferries run frequently, especially during the summer months, with departures every 20-30 minutes. The ferry ride offers stunning coastal views and takes about 15 minutes. A one-way ticket costs approximately €8 and return ticket costs €14, making it an affordable and scenic option. The ferry departs from the main harbour in Santa Margherita Ligure, and tickets can be purchased at the dock or online in advance. The last ferry is at 9 PM, so it is better to take a train back if you are visiting Portofino only for a day.

From Rapallo

Rapallo is another excellent starting point for reaching Portofino. You can easily reach Rapallo by train or car. From there, it's a short train ride to Santa Margherita Ligure, or you can take a direct ferry to Portofino. Ferries from Rapallo run frequently during the summer months, offering a scenic 30-minute journey along the coast. Tickets can be purchased at the dock or online.

Exploring Portofino: Must-Visit Spots

Piazza Martiri dell’Olivetta

Start your adventure at the heart of Portofino, Piazza Martiri dell’Olivetta. This charming square is bustling with vibrant cafes and boutique shops. I spent a delightful afternoon there while watching the boats bob in the harbour.

Castello Brown

For breathtaking views of the coastline, a visit to Castello Brown is a must. This historical castle, perched on a hill, offers panoramic vistas that are simply unforgettable. There is an entry price but it certainly worth visiting. The current price is €5.

Church of San Giorgio

Another highlight is the Church of San Giorgio. This beautiful church not only boasts stunning architecture but also provides another fantastic viewpoint over the harbour. It's a short hike up, but the views are well worth the effort.

Dining in Portofino: What to Eat and Drink

Portofino Bistrot

When it comes to dining, Portofino Bistrot is a personal favourite. Located right by the water, this charming eatery serves up some of the freshest seafood you'll ever taste. While I didn't try the seafood myself, it's a local favourite and highly recommended by many. For my fellow vegetarians, their pasta dishes and salads are delightful, with plenty of fresh, local ingredients.

Gelaterie Gepi

Who wouldn't want to eat an ice-cream while strolling around the streets of Portofino? There are various flavours and it is hard to choose a favourite one! 😊 I tried out 2 scoops of ice cream in a cone and paid €6.

Drinks: Aperol Spritz and More

When in Portofino, you must try an Aperol Spritz, the quintessential Italian aperitif. It's perfect for sipping while enjoying the sunset by the harbour. If you're in the mood for something different, the local white wines, such as Vermentino, are also excellent choices.

Final Tips for Your Portofino Adventure

Best Time to Visit: Spring and autumn are ideal for pleasant weather and fewer crowds. However, if you're a fan of swimming and soaking up the sun, July is perfect for enjoying the sea and the vibrant summer atmosphere. I visited in July, and the warm waters and lively beach scene were just what I needed for a summer escape.

Getting Around: Portofino is best explored on foot. Wear comfortable shoes, as the village's narrow streets and pathways are perfect for strolling.

Car Rental: If you plan to explore beyond Portofino, renting a car can be a great option. It offers the flexibility to visit nearby attractions at your own pace. Just be aware that parking in Portofino can be limited, so plan accordingly.

Accommodation: Book your stay in advance, especially during peak season, as options can fill up quickly.

Different Options: You can also try out exclusive activities with small groups such as paddleboarding with breathtaking views (click here for more information) or aboard a catamaran to discover beautiful corners (click here to see the details).

İstanbul'dan uçuyorsanız, en uygun rota Roma'ya uçmak olacaktır. Roma'dan, Portofino'ya en yakın kasaba olan Santa Margherita Ligure'ye trenle geçebilirsiniz. Tren yolculuğu, size bolca İtalyan manzarası sunacaktır o yüzden yolculuğunuzun çok keyifli geçecektir. 😍

Alternatif Rotalar

Yolu bir nebze azaltmak için, Portofino'ya daha yakın olan Genoa'ya uçabilirsiniz. Genoa'dan, Santa Margherita Ligure'ye yaklaşık 45 dakikalık bir araba yolculuğu veya kısa bir tren yolculuğu yapabilir, ardından otobüs veya feribotla Portofino'ya ulaşabilirsiniz.

Cinque Terre Üzerinden

Castello Brown

İnanılmaz bir Portofino manzarası için Castello Brown'u ziyaret etmek şart. Bu tarihi kale, bir tepenin üzerine kurulu ve panoramik manzara sunuyor size. Giriş ücretli, ama manzara için değer. Şu an için bilet fiyatı €5.

San Giorgio Kilisesi

Bir diğer önemli nokta ise San Giorgio Kilisesi. Bu güzel kilise, yalnızca mimarisi ile değil, aynı zamanda limanın harika manzarasını izleme imkanıyla da sizi etkileyecektir. Kısa bir yürüyüş gerekecek, ancak o manzara çabaya değer.

Portofino'da Ne Yenir ve İçilir?

Portofino Bistrot

Yemek konusunda, Portofino Bistrot favorim. Ligurya denizi kenarında bulunan bu şirin lokanta, tadabileceğiniz en taze deniz ürünlerini sunuyor. Kendim deniz ürünlerini denemedim ama oraya gidenlerin favorisiydi ve birçok kişi tarafından tavsiye ediliyor. Benim gibi vejetaryen arkadaşlarım için de makarna ve salata seçeneklerini öneririm. Hepsi taze ve çok lezzetliydi. Domates sosunun tadını hala hatırlıyorum. 🤤

Gelaterie Gepi

Portofino sokaklarında dolaşırken dondurma yemeyi kim istemez ki? 😊 Pek çok çeşit arasından seçim yapmak zor oluyor. Ben külahta iki top dondurma yedim ve €6 ödedim.

İçecekler: Aperol Spritz ve Diğerleri

Portofino'dayken mutlaka bir Aperol Spritz denemelisiniz, bu İtalya'nın olmazsa olmazıdır. Limanda gün batımını izlerken yudumlamak için mükemmel bir seçenektir. Farklı şeyler denemek isterseniz, yerel beyaz şaraplar, özellikle Vermentino, size önerim.

Portofino Seyahatiniz İçin Diğer İpuçları

En İyi Zaman: İlkbahar ve sonbahar dönemleri hem ılıman bir hava ve hem de daha az kalabalık olacağı için idealdir. Ancak yüzmeyi ve güneşin tadını çıkarmayı seviyorsanız, Temmuz ayı bu yaz atmosferinin tadını çıkarmak için harika bir seçim olacaktır. Ben Temmuz ayında gittim ve keyif aldım. Sıcak arada bunaltsa da güzeldi. 😅

Ulaşım: Portofino en iyi yürüyerek keşfedilir. Zaten aksi çok mümkün değil çünkü yollar çok dar ve ulaşım seçeneği bulunmuyor denebilecek kadar az. Rahat ayakkabılar giymenizi öneririm.

Araba Kiralama: Portofino'yu derinlemesine keşfetmeyi planlıyorsanız, araba kiralamak iyi bir seçenek olabilir. Yakındaki yerleri de yetişme çabanız olmadan rahatça gezebilirsiniz. Ancak Portofino'da park yerinin sınırlı olduğunu unutmayın, bu yüzden planınızı ona göre yapın derim. Araba parklarıyla ilgili çok sorun duydum.

Konaklama: Özellikle yoğun sezonda kalacak yerinizi önceden ayırtın, çünkü seçenekler hızla dolabilir. Ben günübirlik gittiğim için çok konaklama seçeneğine hakim değilim.

     Roma'ya daha önce gitmiştim ve çok sevmiştim. Gerçekten sanat dolu olan bir şehir. Roma'ya dair en sevdiğim özelliklerden biri ise yürüyerek her yere gidebilmeniz. Fakat ilk Roma'ya gittiğim zaman çok uzun kalmamıştım, o yüzden kısıtlı gezebilmiştim. Bu sefer dolu dolu gezdim. Beni en çok mutlu eden şey ise Roma'ya gitmeyi defalarca deneyen ama gidemeyen Semih'i doğum gününde oraya götürebilmiş olmam :) Eminim ki bundan sonra asla 2 Şubat 2017'yi unutmayacaktır.

     I've been to Rome before and I like it. It is full of art. One of the best things about Rome is that you can practically walk to anywhere you like. However, when I first went there, I didn't stay for long, so I didn't wander around much. This time I did it. The thing that made me the happiest person was that I managed to take Semih with me to Rome who tried and failed to do so many times :) I'm sure that he'll never forget 2nd of February, 2017.

     Lizbon'dan Ryan Air ile Roma'ya geçtik ve Ciampiano havaalanına indik saat 23:40 civarı. Ancak gidince bir sürprizle karşılaştık çünkü havaalanı saat 00:00'da kapanıp 04:00'da açılıyormuş. Havaalanında sabahlamayı düşünen olursa bunu unutmasın, yanında uyku tulumu vs. getirip dışarıda beklemesi gerekecek çünkü. Biz de ne yapalım diye düşündük ve şehir merkezinde 24 saat açık olan bir yer bulduk. "Pizza & Mortadella" isimli yerde önce bir dilim pizza yedik sonra çikolatalı tart denedik. Kahvesiz olmaz diyerek "Caffé Trombetta Buvette"e gidip cappucino aldık. İnanın ne kadar lezzetli olduğunu anlatmam imkansız.

     We went to Rome by Ryan Air and landed on Ciampiano at about 23:40. However, it was surprising because the airport is closed at 00:00 and opens at 04:00. If there are some of you thinking of staying there, be sure o bring sleeping bag etc. because you'll have to wait outside. We thought of what to do and then found a place which was open 24 hours a day. We had a slice of pizza and then a chocolate pie at "Pizza & Mortadella". Founding it impossible to not having a coffee, we went to "Caffé Trombetta Buvette" and had a cup of cappucino. Believe me it is not possible for me to tell you how tasty that was.

     Ertesi günün akşamı "Ristorante Pizzeria Sugo" isimli çok güzel bir restorana girdik Duru, ev arkadaşı ve Semih ile beraber. Duru'yla biz lazanya aldık, ev arkadaşı Simge makarna aldı, Semih ise ilk İtalyan pizzasını yedi. O gün 2 şubat ayrıca Semih'in doğum günüydü ve ben ona sürpriz yapmayı düşünürken restoran erken davranıp tiramisu ikramında bulundu. Unutulmaz bir gündü :)

     Next day in the evening Duru, her roommate, Semih and I went to a beautiful restaurant called "Ristorante Pizzeria Sugo". Duru and I ordered lasagna, her roommate Simge ordered pasta and Semih tried out his first Italian pizza. That day, 2nd of February, was also Semih's birthday and while I was thinking of making him a surprise, the restaurant was a step ahead of me because they brought tiramisu. It was an unforgettable day :)

     3 Şubat'ta "Fontana di Trevi" yani "Aşk Çeşmesi"ne gittik. Hava inanılmaz güzeldi ve çok kalabalıktı etraf. Sonra etraftaki dondurmacılardan birine girip dondurma aldık. Bir sürü dondurma çeşidi var Roma'da ve ne kadar dondurmacı varsa hepsine gitmenizi tavsiye edebilirim :) Sonra "İspanyol Merdivenleri"ne gittik. Ben Roma'ya ilk gittiğimde restrorasyon sebebiyle kapalıydı o yüzden bu sefer orayı açık görebilmek beni mutlu etti. Akşam da "Kaos" diye bir yere girdik. İçeride sadece iki tane çalışan vardı ve çok tatlı insanlardı. Bize İtalyanca öğretmelerini rica ettik sonra çok eğlenceli bir şekilde muhabbet ettik.

     On the 3rd of February, we went to "Fontana di Trevi". The weather was extremely nice and it was quite crowded. Then we bought an ice-cream there. There are lots of flavours in Rome and I can recommend you to try out each and every one of the ice-cream shops there :) Then we went to "Spanish Steps". The first time I was there it was closed down due to the restoration so I was happy to see it open this time. Later in the evening we went to "Chaos" and there were only two people working there. We asked them to teach us Italian and then had a fun conversation.

     Sonraki gün "Empire Pizza"da dilim pizza denedik ve çok sevmedik çünkü yağlı geldi. Sonra Vatikan'a gittik, bol bol yürüdük, "Pompi"de muhteşem bir tiramisu yedik, Sonra hep merak ettiğim sinema stüdyosu "Cinecittà"ya uğradık. Akşam ise "Fiume Tevere" yakınlarında "Dar Poeta" isimli bir yere girdik ve inanılmaz güzel pizzaları vardı. Giderseniz mutlaka uğramalısınız.

     The next day we tried a slice of pizza at "Empire Pizza" but we didn't like it much because it had too much oil on it. Then we went to Vatican, walked a lot. We had an amazing tiramisu at "Pompi". Then we went to the cinema theatre "Cinecittà". In the evening we went to "Dar Poeta" where we had great pizzas and it was near "Fiume Tevere". You should definitely go there if you happen to be in Rome.

     Pisa'ya gitmek istedik. Sabah treni çok ucuzdu o yüzden 06:12 trenini seçmiştik. Termini'den kalkacak olan bu trene 06:11'de binebildik çünkü trenlerin kalktıkları peronlar 26 taneymiş ve biz ona yakınız sanarken 14'üncü perona yakın olduğumuzu fark ettik. Sabah ufak bir macera yaşadık anlayacağınız :) Pisa küçük bir yerdi. Nehrini sevdik. O yoldan dümdüz devam edince zaten Pisa kulesine ulaşıyorsunuz. Fotoğraf çektirirken şekilden şekle giren insanları görmek eğlenceli oluyor :) Tren biletini gidiş geliş 40 küsür euro gibi bir fiyata aldık. Akşamüstü de Roma'ya geri döndük. Ertesi sabah Semih'in uçağı çok erken olduğu için hemen eve gelip uyuduk :)

     Before turning back, we wanted to visit Pisa. The train in the early morning was very cheap so we chose 06:12 train. We got on the train which was to leave from Termini at 06:11 because there were 26 platforms and we thought we were close but the platform we were closed to was number 14. We lived through a small adventure :) We bought the return tickets for about 40 euros. We went back to Rome in the evening. Since Semih had an early flight the next day, we slept straightaway :)

     Roma'yı gerçekten çok seviyorum ve hafta sonu bile fırsat bulunca gidip dönülebilecek kadar eğlenceli bir yer eğer yemek yemeyi ve tarih barındıran şehirleri seviyorsanız :) Normalde haftaya Amsterdam - Brüksel - Paris seyahatim vardı ancak ufak bir sakatlık atlattığım için iptal etmek zorunda kaldım. Umarım bir sonraki seyahatimde bu gerçekleşir ve sizlere yazı yazarım :)

     I really love Rome and it's such a fun city if you like eating and places that reflect history :) Actually I was supposed to travel to Amsterdam - Brussels - Paris next week but due to a small injury I had to cancel it. I hope it will come true soon and I will write a post about it :)

İspanya - Portekiz - İtalya Seyahati Part 2 (Spain - Portugal - Italy Travel Diaries Part 2)

     Lizbon'da hava çok güzel ve ocak ayı olmasına rağmen gezerken montumun fermuarını kapatmadım bile. İlk gün Marquês de Pombal, Praca do Rossio, Praça do Comércio, Santa Maria de Belém,Torre de Belém, Pastéis de Belém ve Cais do Sodré gezdik. Belém'i çok sevdim çünkü aynı isimli meşhur bir tatlıları var ve sütlaçın milföy hamuruyla sunulmuş hali gibi. Sadece 1 euro'ydu. Torre de Belém'i de çok sevdim ve orada saatler harcadım.

     The weather in Lisbon is amazing and I didn't even zip up my coat while wandering around although it was January. On the first day we went to Marquês de Pombal, Praca do Rossio, Praça do Comércio, Santa Maria de Belém,Torre de Belém, Pastéis de Belém and Cais do Sodré, I loved Belém because they have a famous desert which is like rice pudding in puff pastry dough. It costs 1 euro only. Torre de Belém was also nice and I spent there lots of time.

     Lizbon'da tek kullanımlık metro bileti 1.45 euro ancak ben sınırsız tek günlük kullanım aldım 6.15 euro'ya ve defalarca kullandım. Ulaşımın İstanbul'a oranla daha uygun fiyatlı olduğu bir gerçek.

     In Lisbon, single use metro tickets cost 1.45 euro but I bought an unlimited use for 24 hours ticket for 6.15 euro and I used it many times. It's true that transportation is cheaper compared to Istanbul.

     İkinci gün alışveriş yapmak için Colombo'ya gittik. Orada Disney Store'da vardı ve beni tanıyanlar Disney aşığı olduğumu bilecektir. O gün çok yorulduğumuz ve ertesi sabah erken kalkacağımız için Semih'le yemek sonrası odamızda kalmaya karar verdik ve günü noktaladık.

     On the secondy day we went to Colombo for shopping. There is a Disney Store in Colombo and anyone who is acquainted with me knows that I'm a Disney lover. Since we were so tired and we were also supposed to wake up early tomorrow morning, we decided to stay in after the dinner and called it a day.

     Üçüncü gün Semih'in vize işlemleri için Setúbal diye bir yere gittik ve çok sevdim. Küçük bir kasaba gibiydi. Akşam da liseden arkadaşımla karşılaştım ve bir Meksika restoranına gittik Las Ficheras isimli. En çok yemek yediğim gün bu olabilir.

     On the third day we went to Setúbal for Semih's visa process and I liked it. It was like a small village. Then I met a friend of mine from high school and we went to a Mexica restaurant called Las Ficheras. That was probably the day I had eaten the most.

     Dördüncü günümüzde lise arkadaşımla gezip akşam Semih'le buluştuk çünkü Semih'in o gün sınavı vardı. Grilled & Company isimli yerde akşam pizza yedik ve eve döndük çünkü sabah erkenden kalkıp hem Semih'in odasını taşıyacaktık hem de arkadaşı Theresa ile kahvaltı edecektik.

     On our fourth day I wandered around with my high school friend and then met Semih in the evening because he had an exam. We ate pizza at a place called Grilled & Company and went back home because we were supposed to wake up early tomorrow morning to help Semih move out to another room and meet his friend Theresa for breakfast.

     Son günümüzde Choupana Caffe'ye gidip kahvaltımızı ettik. Sonra en yakın McDonald's şubesine girip bir şeyler atıştırdık çünkü vaktimiz yoktu. Ardından havaalanına gittik ve Roma uçağımız için beklemeye başladık. Roma başlı başına bir macera konusu ve haftaya gelecek olan yazım onunla ilgili olacak. Takipte kalın :)

     On our last day we went to Choupana Caffe for breakfast. Then we went to the nearest McDonald's because we didn't have time to find a place to eat. Later we went to the airport and began to wait for our flight. Rome is the city where we went through many adventures and it will be the subject of my upcoming post. Stay tuned :)

Bazı anılar / Some moments

- Semih Portekizce bilmediğini ve zorlandığını ısrar etse de inanın bana şakır şakır konuşarak bütün problemlerimizi çözdü. (Even though Semih insisted that he didn't know Portuguese and that he had a hard time with it, believe me he worked out all of our problems by speaking fluently in Portuguese.)

- Semih'in taşınması gerekiyordu ancak taşınacağı dairenin boşalması için bir gün beklemesi gerekiyordu. (Semih had to move out but the apartment he was supposed to move in was already occupied so he had to wait. Halim came to help with all his hospitality and we should thank him :) I still haven't forgotten how he managed to carry our luggages on his shoulders at the steps like Hercules!)

- Semih'le vakit geçirince Erasmus anılarım canlandı bu tatilde. Erasmus yapabileceğiniz en güzel olay ve herkesin hayatında bir kez yaşaması gerekiyor bence. Zorlukları olsa da bitince o zor anları bile özlüyorsunuz. (While spending time with Semih I remembered my Erasmus times. Erasmus is the most beautiful experience you can ever have and I believe everyone should try it once. Although there are difficulties, you even miss those when you come back.)

- Pink Street'te kalabalık içinden sıyrılıp manzara izlediğimiz o güzel gün için de Mümin Can'a ve Viktor'a selam olsun :) (Saying hi to Mümin Can and Viktor for the night we spent in Pink Street and then went up to watch the view)

- Her seyahat sonunda fark ediyorum ki çok küçüğüz ve keşfedecek çok yer var. (At the end of each travel I realise that we are small and there are lots of places to discover.)

90'lılara Hitap Eden 20 Film! / 20 Films That 90's Kids Love

     Hello everyone :)

     Kar sebebiyle pek çok kişi okula ya da işe gidemiyor. Böyle günlerde en eğlenceli aktivite sıcak çikolata eşliğinde film izlemek tabii ki. Film tavsiyesi yapmadan önce beni nostaljik hissettiren hangi filmler var diye düşündüm ve 93 doğumlu biri olarak aklıma gelen ilk 20 filmi hazırladım. Her 90 doğumlu bu filmlerle büyüdü diye bir şey elbette yok, ben sadece kendi büyüdüğüm filmleri yazdım, ancak en azından yarısını hepinizin izlediğine eminim. Bazen yeni filmlerdense eski filmleri tebessümle izlemek istiyor insan. Benim aklıma gelmeyen filmler varsa veya siz farklı filmlerle büyüdüyseniz yorum olarak ya da diğer sosyal medya hesaplarından bana yazarsanız çok sevinirim. Böylelikle daha çok film izleriz. Fazla film izlemenin kime ne zararı var? :)

     A lot of people are unable to attend classes or go to work. The most entertaining activity in such days is to watch films along with a cup of hot chocolate. Before recommending films, I thought about the ones which made me nostalgic and I prepared a list of 20 films as a person born in '93. I'm not suggesting that all of the people born in the 90's grew up with these films, I just wrote the ones I was acquainted with but I'm sure you've at least seen the half of them. Sometimes you want to watch old films with a smile instead of brand new ones. I'd be happy if you wrote to me the films I forgot to mention or about the films you grew up with as a comment or through the social media. This way we can see much more films. What's the harm in watching more? :)

     1- 101 Dalmatians (1996)

     1956 yılında aynı isimli çocuk romanından uyarlanan ve 1961 yapımı animasyonuyla büyüdüğümüz hikayenin film versiyonunu izlemeyenimiz yoktur. Kısaca Dalmaçya cinsi köpeklerin çalınmasını ve kötü karakter Cruella De Vil'i konu edinen filmin başrolünde Glenn Close oynuyor. Animasyonu ya da filmi izledikten sonra dalmaçyalı köpeği olsun isteyen tek ben değildim eminim :)

     I suppose that all of us have seen the film version of the story adapted from the children's novel of the same name published in 1956 and the animation produced in 1961 which we grew up with. In brief, it's about the evil character Cruella De Vil and the stolen Dalmatians. Glenn Close plays the leading role in the film. I'm sure that I wasn't the only one wanting to adopt Dalmatians after seeing the animation or the film :)

     2- Baby's Day Out (1994)
 

     Beni tanıyanlar bilecektir ki geniş bir DVD koleksiyonum var (en son 300'ü geçmişti) ve bu film kesinlikle içlerinde favorim. Televizyonda binlerce kez izlememe rağmen bıkmadım, hala aklıma geldikçe oturur izlerim. Başroldeki bebek dünya tatlısı ve onun macerasını izlemek çok keyif veriyor bana :) "Evde Tek Başına" filminin bir nebze bebek versiyonu diyebiliriz.

    People who know me know that I have a wide range of DVDs in my collection (recently they were more than 300) and this film is one of my favourites among them. Even though I've seen it for thousands of times on television, I'm still not tired of it and I still see it when it comes to my mind. The baby starring in the movie is very sweet; I enjoy watching his adventure :) It's like the baby version of "Home Alone".

     3- Beethoven (1992)

     90'larda bu tarz köpekli filmler çok meşhurdu, neden bilmiyorum. Beethoven'ın da bir film serisi mevcut. Hangisine denk geldiniz bilmiyorum ama eminim ki bir tanesine denk gelip mutlaka izlemişsinizdir. Yardımsever kimliğiyle günü kurtaran bir köpek hikayesi izlemek kimi mutlu etmez ki? :)

     In 90s, films that involved dogs were quite popular, I don't know why. Beethoven has series of films. I don't know which one of them you've come across, but I'm sure you've seen one once. Who wouldn't be happy to watch a dog who saves the day? :)

     4- Big (1988)

     İtiraf etmeliyim ki bu filmi ilk izlediğimde çok korkmuştum. Filmde doğum gününde yetişkin olmayı dileyen ve ertesi gün yetişkin bedeninde uyanan çocuğun macerasını anlatıyor. Neden korktun derseniz öncelikle küçük olduğum için bunun gerçek olabilme fikri ürkütmüştü. Diğer sebebi ise dileği için gittiği Zoltar. O makine beni germişti açıkçası :) Artık gülerek seyrediyorum tabii ki. Tom Hanks'in müthiş oyunculuğuna da kocaman bir alkış!

     I should confess that I got scared when I first saw it. It tells the story of a boy who wishes to become adult on his birthday and the next day he becomes one. If you ask me why I was scared; firstly, I was a little child and the possibility of this happening in real life made me frightened. The other reason is Zoltar which grants his wish. That machine freaked me out :) Of course now I watch it with laughs. Also a standing ovation for the amazing acting skills of Tom Hanks!

     5- Dennis the Menace (1993)

     Afacan Dennis benim en sevdiğim karakterlerdendir. Mr. George Wilson'ı yaramazlıklarıyla çıldırtan Dennis'in hikayesine hepimizin aşina olduğunu düşünüyorum. Bu kadar da olmaz artık dedirten hareketleriyle bizi bile şaşırtan Dennis'i izlemek hala eğlendiriyor. Çizgi filmi de bir o kadar komik.

     Dennis the Menace is one of my favourite characters. I'm sure that all of us are familiar with the story of Dennis, who drives Mr. George Wilson mad with his mischief. It's still fun to watch Dennis who surprises us with his naughtiness and makes us say "you must be kidding". The animation version is funny as well.

     6- Home Alone (1990)

     Tabii ki böyle bir liste "Evde Tek Başına" olmadan olmazdı. Hala her yılbaşı hepimiz yaş fark etmeksizin oturup seyrediyoruz. Yapacak bir şey bulamayınca "ne izlesek?" sorumuzun cevabı anında o oluyor. Bir jenerasyon Macaulay Culkin ile büyüdü dersek yanlış olmaz bence :) Sonra devam filmleri gelse de bu film hala favori olmayı sürdürüyor. Neler olacağını artık ezberlemiş olmamıza rağmen eğlenerek izlemeye devam ediyoruz.

     Of course the list should include "Home Alone". Still, all of us, regardless of our ages, see this movie every New Year's Eve. It's still the answer to our question of "what should we see?" when we cannot find anything to do. I wouldn't be wrong if I said a whole generation grew up with Macaulay Culkin :) Even if there are sequels, this one is the favourite one. Although we know what's going to happen by heart, we still enjoy seeing it.

    7- Jingle All the Way (1996)

     Türkçesi "Babam Söz Verdi" olan film Arnold Schwarzenegger'in oğluna verdiği sözü yerine getirme maceralarını konu alıyor. Turbo Man oyuncağını oğluna almaya çalışır ancak oyuncak tükenmiştir ve sözünü yerine getirmesi gerekmektedir. Yılbaşı filmlerimden biri olan "Jingle All the Way" kesinlikle çok eğlenceli ve daha önce izlemediyseniz tavsiye edeceğim filmlerden. Tatlı bir aile komedisi arıyorsanız bu tam size göre.

     It tells the adventure of Arnold Schwarzenegger who tries to keep his promise that he gives to his son. He wants to buy Turbo Man action figure, but it is sold out and he has to keep his promise. It's one of my New Year's Eve movies, it is quite fun and I recommend it if you haven't seen it before. If you are looking for a family comedy film, it's just for you.

     8- Jumanji (1995)

     Bu dönemden bahsediyorsak Robin Williams ve filmlerinden bahsetmemek olmaz. Çocukluğum direkt kendisiyle geçti, hatta listeye bir filmini daha dahil ettim aşağıda. İki çocuğun sihirli bir oyun kutusu bulmasıyla maceraya açılmasını ele alan film bana fantastik dünyayı sevdiren ilk filmdir. İlk izlediğimde nasıl heyecanlandığımı hala hatırlıyorum. Robin Williams öldüğünde 90 doğumlular olarak çok üzülmemizin sebeplerinden biri de buydu. Hepimiz onunla büyüdük ve onunla bir şeyleri sevdik.

     If we are talking about this period, we shouldn't forget Robin Williams and his films. My whole childhood was full of him and I also added another movie of his below. This is the first movie to make me love the fantastic world and it tells the story of two children that find a magical game and go on an adventure. I still remember how excited I got when I first saw it. This was one of the reasons why people born in the 90's got extremely sad when Robin Williams died, because we grew up with him and we loved some things thanks to him.

     9- Jurassic Park (1993)

     Hala aynı hikayenin ekmeğini yeseler de ilk filmin hepimizde farklı bir yeri olduğu aşikar. İzlediğim zaman gerçek olabilme ihtimali beni çok korkutmuştu ve ben zaten boyumdan büyük şeylerden çok korkardım. Hala korkuyorum. O zamanlar lunaparka bile gitmek beni çok korkuturdu çünkü bütün oyuncaklar dev gibi görünürdü :) En kötü efektlere bile sahip olsa hala izliyoruz ve sanırım 2025'te bile izlemeye devam edeceğiz aynı zevkle.

     Even if they are still making lots of films from the same story, it's clear that the first film means something different to us. The possibility of happening such a thing made me frightened and I'm scared of things that are bigger than me. I still am. I was even scared to go to amusement parks because all the machines looked bigger than me :) Even if the film had poor effects, we'd still see it and I guess we'll enjoy seeing it in 2025 too.

     10- Look Who's Talking (1989)

     "Bak Şu Konuşana" şeklinde Türkçe'ye çevrilen filmin başrollerini John Travolta ve Kirstie Alley paylaşıyor. İzlediğim zaman çok şaşırmıştım ve etkinlenmiştim çünkü tekrar ediyorum, çok küçüktüm :) Daha sonra "Look Who's Talking Too" (1990) ve "Look Who's Talking Now" (1993) şeklinde devam filmleri de geldi. Hepsinin de birbirinden güzel olduğunu söylemek istiyorum. Zaten beni tanıyanlar bilecektir ki John Travolta'nın en büyük hayranlarından biriyim. Hayatımda izlediğim ilk film 5 yaşındayken "Grease" olmuştu ve İngilizce filmi altyazısız seyretmiştim. Hiçbir şey anlamadığım halde aşırı etkinlenmiştim ve doğal olarak John Travolta'ya aşık olmuştum :) Bana filmleri sevdiren kişi kendisidir. O yüzden bu komedi üçlemesini de şiddetle tavsiye ederim.

     The film is starred by John Travolta and Kirstie Alley. I was quite surprised and shocked when I first saw it because let me repeat- I was a little child :) Later it had sequels called "Look Who's Talking Too" (1990) and "Look Who's Talking Now" (1993). Each one of them is great. People who know me also knows that I'm one of the biggest fans of John Travolta. The first film I saw was "Grease" and I was 5 years old. I saw it without any subtitles. I didn't understand anything but I was impressed and naturally I was in love with John Travolta :) He is the one who made me love watching films. Therefore I highly suggest you see this trilogy.

     11- Men in Black (1997)

     Tommy Lee Jones ve Will Smith ile aksiyon dolu uzaylı macerasına ortak olmamış kimse yoktur diye düşünüyorum. İzlediğimde beni heyecanlandıran filmlerden biriydi ve ilk izlediğimde 8 yaşındaydım. Daha sonra 2002'de ve 2012'de devam filmleri gelse de her zamanki gibi ilk film en çok sevdiklerimden. Zaten Will Smith ile büyümemiş olan yoktur diye düşünüyorum. O dönemlerde aynı zamanda şarkı da söylüyordu. "Switch", "Summertime" ve "Wild Wild West" isimli şarkıları aklımda kalanlardan :)

     I believe there is no one that did not take part in the action packed alien adventure of Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith. It was one of the films that made me excited and I was 8 years old when I first saw it. Even if it had sequels in 2002 and 2012, the first film is my favourite one. I also think that there is no one that did not grow up with Will Smith. He was a singer back then. "Switch", "Summertime" and "Wild Wild West" are the songs that are in my mind :)

     12- Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)

     Yukarıda bahsettiğim ikinci Robin Williams filmine geldik. Neredeyse her ay bir kere televizyonda izlediğim bu film arşivimde en sevdiklerimden. John Travolta, Jim Carrey ve Robin Williams bu dönemde doğan herkesin ilk üçüne girecektir diye düşünüyorum aktör sıralamasında. Muhteşem oyunculuğuyla çocuklarına bakabilmek için dadı kılığına giren Robin Williams'ın aslında komik ve bir o kadar da dramatik hikayesini izliyoruz. Hem güldüren hem hüzünlendiren bir film kendisi. Sıcak bir aile filmi aradığınızda gözünüz kapalı seçebileceğiniz yapımlardan. Ayrıca "Hook" ve "Flubber" da yine küçükken izlediğim en güzel filmlerinden. Listeye dahil etmesem de onlara da aşinadır 90'lı herkes.

     Here is the second film of Robin Williams I mentioned above. It is one of my favourite films and I watch it at least once every month. I believe everyone born in the 90's would include John Travolta, Jim Carrey and Robin Williams in their favourite actors list. We watch the funny and dramatic story of Robin Williams who dresses up as a nanny to take care of his children. This is a film that makes you both happy and sad. It's also one of the films that you can watch when you want to see a family film. Besides, "Hook" and "Flubber" are two of the movies that I watched when I was a child. I didn't include them in the list but I'm sure people born in the 90's are familiar with them.

     13- Mars Attacks! (1996)

     Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close, Pierce Brosnan, Danny DeVito, Sarah Jessica Parker ve Natalie Portman gibi başarılı oyunculardan oluşan kadrosuyla beni en çok güldüren filmlerden biriydi bu. İlk izlediğimde yaşım sebebiyle imalı esprileri anlayamasam da çok eğlenmiştim. Tabii şu an izlediğimde her şey daha anlamlı geliyor :) Marslıların dünyayı ele geçirmesini anlatan film bence o dönem için çekilebilecek en başarılı komedi ve bilim-kurgu türündeki film.

     It's one of the films that make me laugh the most and it's starred by Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close, Pierce Brosnan, Danny DeVito, Sarah Jessica Parker and Natalie Portman. I didn't understand their subtle jokes due to my age but it was still fun when I first saw it. Of course everything makes much more sense right now :) It's about the world being taken by martians and it is -for that period- a successful comedy and sci-fi film.

     14- Problem Child (1990)

     Afacan Dennis'i andıran ve inanılmaz güldüren bir filmdir kendisi. Başroldeki çocuk tam anlamıyla "canavar" ve onu evlat edinen aileyi çok zor durumlara sürüklüyor :) 1991'de ve 1995'te gelen devam filmleri de bir o kadar eğlenceli. "Evde Tek Başına" ve "Afacan Dennis" karışımı bu film de çocukluğumda en sevdiklerimdi.

     This film is like "Dennis the Menace" and it's really funny. The child in the leading role is literally a "monster" and he drives his adoptive family insane :) The sequels that came in 1991 and 1995 are fun as well. This film was one of my favourite as it's like a combination of "Home Alone" and "Dennis the Menace". 

     15- Richie Rich (1994)

     Macaulay Culkin'le büyüyen bir nesil olduğumuzdan bahsetmiştim. Bu da "Evde Tek Başına" gibi eğlenceli başka bir filmi. Küçük yaşta zengin olan Richard (Macaulay Culkin) servet sahibidir ve bunun peşinde olan kötü adamları halletmesi gerekmektedir. Bu film Macaulay Culkin'in çocuk aktör olarak çektiği son filmdir. Sonra 1998'de "Richie Rich's Christmas Wish" ismiyle devam filmi gelse de ilki kadar tutmamıştır ve oradaki başrol de farklı birisi olmuştur. İzlerken nasıl eğlenceli geldiğini hala hatırlıyorum :)

     I talked about the fact that we were a generation that grew up with Macaulay Culkin. This is one his fun movies like "Home Alone". Richard (Macaulay Culkin) is wealthy at a very young age and he needs to take care of bad guys that are after his money. This film is the last film Macaulay Culkin starred in as a child actor. Even if it had a sequel called "Richie Rich's Christmas Wish" in 1998, it didn't become that popular and the leading actor was someone else. I still remember how fun it was when I first saw it :)

     16- Space Jam (1996)

     Daha başlığı okur okumaz nasıl duygusallaştığınızı görür gibiyim :) Belki de 90'lar denince akla ilk gelen filmdir bu. Michael Jordon'ın ve Looney Tunes karakterlerinin macera dolu basketbol hikayesine tanıklık ediyoruz filmde. Şu an izlense belki saçma ve sıkıcı gelebilecek bu film o zamanlarda kesinlikle hepimizi heyecanlandıran ve mutlu eden filmlerdendi. Filmi kasette izlemiştim (eskiden VHS dediğimiz video kasetler vardı) ve artık bulut sisteminde bulunan bir film bu. Böylelikle teknolojide ne kadar yol kat ettiğimizi de görmüş oluyoruz :)

     I can almost see how emotional you became when you read the title :) Maybe it's one of the films that comes to mind when talking about the 90's. It might be boring and silly if people see it today for the first time, but in that period it was one of the films that made us excited and happy. I had its VHS (there were video cassettes called VHS) and now it's available on the cloud system. So, we can even see how far we got with the technology :)

     17- Titanic (1997)

     Celine Dion'un "My Heart Will Go On" dışında şarkısı olduğunu bilmediğimiz zamanlardı. Bizi yaş olarak oldukça aşan bir aşk hikayesi olmasına rağmen koltuğumuza yapışıp ağlayarak izlemiştik hepimiz. İlk seyrettiğimde 10 yaşındaydım ve sanki 40 yaşında görmüş geçirmiş biri gibi hüzünlenmiştim :) Hala televizyonda çıkınca benim gibi kanalı değiştirmeyip izlediğinize eminim.

     These were the times we didn't know Celine Dion had a song other than "My Heart Will Go On". Even if it was a love story way above our age, we were stuck in our seats and cried our eyes out. I was 10 years old when I first saw it and I was quite emotional like a 40 year old lady who went through a lot :) I'm sure you'd still see it without changing the channel if you came across it on the television. 

     18- The Addams Family (1991)

     Ve listenin en değişik filmine geldik. Bu fantastik aileyi tanımayan yoktur eminim ki. Gomez ve Morticia'nın aşkını, muhteşem karakter Wednesday'i hala hatırlıyoruz. Ayrıca Fox Kids'te "Welcome to the Addams Family" jeneriğiyle dizisini de severek izlemişizdir hepimiz. Fox Kids zaten ayrı bir dünyaydı, bizim dünyamızdı :)

     And here the most original film in the list. I'm sure there is no one that doesn't know about this fantastic family. We still remember Gomez and Morticia's love, the amazing character Wednesday. Also, I'm sure we saw its series on Fox Kids with the intro "Welcome to the Addams Family". Fox Kids was a whole different world, it was our world :)

     19- The Mask (1994)

     90'lar diyince bahsetmemiz gereken başka bir aktör kesinlikle Jim Carrey. "Dumb and Dumber", "The Truman Show", "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" ve "Liar Liar" gibi birçok filmiyle büyüdüğümüz, "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" ve "Number 23" gibi filmleriyle komedi dışına çıkabildiğini de kanıtlayan, "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" ve "Dumb and Dumber To" ile hala insanları güldürebileceğini gösteren bu aktörün favorilerimden olduğunu bir kez daha belirtmek istiyorum. "Maske" filmi de kafamda direkt olarak 90'larla özdeşleşen filmlerden. Yüzüne maske takınca yeşil olan adamı hangimiz izlemedik ki? :)

     We should definitely mention Jim Carrey if we are to talk about the 90's. "The Mask" is one of my favourite films of Jim Carrey and we grew up with his films such as "The Truman Show", "How the Grinch Stole the Christmas" and "Liar Liar", he proved that he could do other types of films rather than comedy with the films "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and "Number 23", and he showed that he could still make people laugh with "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" and "Dumb and Dumber To". "The Mask" is one of the films that directly take me back to the 90's. Which one of us didn't see the man that had a green face after wearing the mask? :)

     20- The Nutty Professor (1996)

     Canım Eddie Murphy! Hangi filmini açarsam açayım beni çok güldüren bu yetenekli aktörü hepimizin en az bir kere izlediğine eminim. Daha sonra "Dr. Dolittle" filmiyle de bizi güldüren Eddie Murphy'nin ilk izlediğim filmlerinden biriydi bu. Filmde 8 karakteri birden canlandıran ve rolden role bürünen Eddie Murphy inanılmaz başarılı bir performans sergiliyor ve hala çok gülüyorum :) Filmde henüz deney aşamasında olan bir kimyasal ürün ile 200 kilodan ideal kilosuna inen karakterin başına gelen komik maceraları izliyoruz. Bence komedi filmleri içinde en güzel olanlardan :)

     My dear Eddie Murphy! I'm sure that we've all seen this talented actor whose films make me laugh the most. He starred in "Dr. Doolittle" later too, but this was the first film I saw. He plays 8 different characters in the same film and does it perfectly. I still laugh a lot :) We watch the funny adventures of a professor who uses a chemical product which is still in a testing stage and he achieves his ideal weight from 200 kilos. It's one of my favourite comedy films :)

     Bu ikiz kardeşlerin 90'lara Macaulay Culkin gibi iz bıraktığı bir gerçek. Onların bütün filmlerini televizyonda seyrettik. "It Takes Two", "Passport to Paris" ve "Our Lips Are Sealed" gibi komedi ve macera dolu filmlerle ikizleri tanıyıp sevdik. Şu an bu kardeşler benden 7 yaş büyük ve bu yazıyı yazarken giderek yaşlı hissettiğimi de söylemem gerek doğrusu :)

     It's true that these twins had an impact on the 90's just like Macaulay Culkin. We watched all of their films. We got to know them through films like "It Takes Two", "Passport To Paris" and "Our Lips Are Sealed". Right now they are 7 years older than me and I should say that I felt quite old while preparing this list :)

     90 doğumluysanız ve size ufak bir nostaljik yolculuk yaşattıysam ne mutlu. Öyle değilse bile bu filmleri izlemenizi tavsiye ederim. Hepinize sevgiler :)

     If you were born in the 90's and I managed to take you back there then it means I pulled this off. Even if I failed to do so, I recommend you watch all of them. Lots of love :)
