Hi everyone!
Yılbaşını yurt dışında geçirmeye karar verdik ancak arkadaşımın İngiltere'de olması sebebiyle ve halihazırda Schengen vizesi olmaması sebebiyle vizesiz bir yere gidebilecektik. Başka bir arkadaşımın da o sırada Üsküp'e gidecek olması bizi oraya yöneltti çünkü vizesiz gidebiliyorduk. Şansa eğer vaktimiz olursa etrafta başka yerlere de gitme planı yapmıştık ve bu kararla rotamızı oluşturduk.
We decided to spend the New Year's Day abroad but my friend was in the UK that time and he didn't have a Schengen visa. That's why we could only go somewhere that didn't need any visa. One of my friends had already planned to go to Skopje and that also affected our decision because we were able to go there without a visa. We also planned to visit nearby cities if we had any chance.
29 Aralık cuma günü sabahtan Üsküp Havaalanı'na geçtik. İnanılmaz küçük bir yer. Üstelik çıkarken ilginç bir şekilde tekrar valizinizi kontrolden geçiriyorlar ve gereksiz vakit alıyor. Bunu neden yaptıklarına dair en ufak bir fikrim yok. Şehir merkezine taksiyle geçmek en mantıklısıydı çünkü iki kişiydik ve para birimi olarak TL ile kıyaslayınca oldukça ucuz kalıyor Makedonya.
We were at the Skopje Airport on the 29th of December, on a Friday morning. It's quite a small place. Interestingly, they checked our luggage once again as we were leaving the airport and that took some time which bothered us a lot. We have no idea why they do that. We went to the city centre by taxi because Turkish Lira is way cheaper as opposed to Macedonian Denar and splitting the cost was the best choice.
Kaldığımız yerden şehir merkezi oldukça yakındı. Yaklaşık 10 dakikalık bir yürüme mesafesi ile merkeze inebiliyordunuz. Yılbaşı zamanı olduğu için de Noel Pazarı hala duruyordu. Krofne adını verdikleri donut benzeri bir tatlı yedik orada, tadı hala damağımda çünkü inanılmaz açtık :) O gün sadece şehir merkezini gezdik. Mother Teresa Memorial House'a uğradık. Gerçek adı Gonca Boyacı olan Rahibe Teresa için yapılan bir anma evi. Sonrasında kaybola kaybola Old Town'ı gezdik. Burası daha otantik kalıyor şehir merkezine kıyasla. Bizim Eminönü, Sultanahmet gibi bir yer. Türk birçok satıcıya da rastlamak mümkün. Daha çok şehri hissetmek ya da geleneksel takılmak istiyorsanız burayı tercih edebilirsiniz. Buraya da Taş Köprü dedikleri köprüden geçerek ulaşabiliyorsunuz. Bu da oldukça ünlü bir köprü. Yemek için biz Meksika restoranı olan Amigos Cantina'ya gittik ama daha geleneksel yiyecekler isterseniz Old Town'da çok seçenek bulabilirsiniz.
It was easy to get to the city centre from where we stayed, we only walked 10 minutes. Since the New Year was coming, the Christmas Market was still standing. We ate a dougnut-like dessert called "Krophne" and I still remember the taste of it! We only spent time at the city centre that day. We visited Mother Teresa's Memorial House. It's dedicated to Gonca Boyacı, who is well known as Mother Teresa. Then we found ourselves at Old Town. It is more authentic compared to the city centre. It's like our Eminonu, Sultanahmet, etc. You are most likely to come across Turkish salesperson. If you want to live the traditional part, then you can spend time there. You can get there by passing the Stone Bridge. This is also famous. We went to a Mexican restaurant called Amigos Cantina for dinner but if you want to try something traditional, then you should head to Old Town.
İkinci gün Krin diye pastanemsi bir yerde ünlü böreklerini yedik. Siz siz olun, bizim gibi iki dilim alma hatasına düşmeyin. Akşama kadar bir şey yiyemedik, o kadar doyurucu. Daha sonra otobüs istasyonun olduğu yere gidip Kosova'ya otobüs bileti aldık. Yaklaşık 1 saatlik bir yolculuk sonrası Priştine'deydik. Burası Üsküp'ten daha küçük bir yerdi. Şehir merkezinin girişinde de Mother Teresa Katedrali bizi karşıladı. Ardından "New Born" anıtının oraya geldik. Kosova'nın Sırbistan'dan bağımsızlığını ilan ettiği zaman yapılmış ve her yıl farklı renklere boyanırmış. Biz gittiğimizde 10. yıl olduğu için "New 10rn" yazıyordu :) Ayrıca Kosova'da bir Bill Clinton sevgisi de mevcut. Bunun sebebi ise 1999 yılında Clinton'ın Kosova'ya destek vermiş olması. Burada da yine güzel bir Noel Pazarı vardı. Her ne kadar çok kalabalık olmasa da kendimizce eğlendik :) Akşam da yine otobüsle Üsküp'e döndük. Kosova'da para biriminin Euro olduğunu da hatırlatmak isterim. Bizim gibi Üsküp'ten geçecekseniz yanınızda Makedon Dinarı'na ek olarak Euro da olmalı.
On second day, we had their famous "burek" at Krin. Do not make the mistake we did by ordering two pieces, just eat one! :) We couldn't eat a thing until the night. Then we went to the main bus station and bought tickets for Pristine, Kosova. After a travel of an hour, we arrived. It was smaller than Skopje. At the entrance of the city centre, there was a Mother Teresa Cathedral. Then we went to the "New Born" monument. It was made when Kosova declared its independence from Serbia and it was coloured differently each year. It was their 10th anniversary, that's why the monument read "New 10rn" :) They also love Bill Clinton very much. The reason why they do is that Clinton supported them in 1999. Their Christmas Market was also beautiful. I want to remind you all that they spend Euro. You should make sure that you have Euros on you, not only Macedonian Denar.
Üçüncü ve yeni yılı kutlayacağımız gün de Matka Kanyon'una gitmeye karar verdik. Bu hava için hiç uygun bir yer değilmiş onu anladık. Çok soğuk ve aşırı esiyor. Şehir merkezinden kalkan 60 numaralı otobüse binerek gelebiliyorsunuz. Yaklaşık 1 saatlik yolculukla son durak olan bu kanyona vardık. Birkaç burun geçebildik, daha fazla ileri gidemedik. Soğuk ve ayakkabılarım buna müsaade etmedi açıkçası :) Bir de o gün fazla bir şey yiyemedik. Biraz açlığa da yenik düşerek geri döndük. Akşam arkadaşlarımızla buluşup şehir meydanındaki Noel Pazarı'nın olduğu yere geldik. Makedonca anlamadığımız ama eğlendiren şarkıları dinleyip havai fişeklerin altında yeni yıla hızlı bir giriş yaptık :) Gerçekten çok farklı bir atmosferdi.
On the third day that we were going to celebrate the new year, we decided to visit Matka Canyon. We saw that the weather was actually not eligible to that. It was quite cold and windy. You get there by getting on the bus number 60. After a travel of an hour we got to the last station, the canyon. We walked a bit then returned because the cold and my high heeled boots did not allow us :) Also we did not eat much. After the evening, we met our friends and went to the city centre. We welcomed the new year quite fast accompanied by Macedonian songs we did not understand and under some fireworks :) It was a rather different ambiance.
Dördüncü ve son günümüz ise öğlene kadar uyuyarak geçti tabii :) Zaten şehir merkezinde çoğu yer de kapalıydı. Ramstore Mall diye bir alışveriş merkezine gidip menemen eşliğinde kahvaltımızı yaptık :) Şehir merkezinde turlayıp trileçe ve kahve keyfi de yaptıktan sonra diğer arkadaşlarımızla buluşup taksi bölüşerek yine havaalanına gittik. Dönerken "ayvar" ve "pincur" dedikleri iki leziz kahvaltılık mezeden alıp eve götürmeyi de ihmal etmedik, siz de mutlaka kavanozlarca alın derim!
The fourth and the last day went by sleeping :) Most of the places were closed at the city centre anyway. We had our breakfast at a shopping centre called Ramstore Mall and had scrambled eggs :) After that we had trilece (tres leches cake) and had some coffe. Then we met out friends, shared the taxi to make it to the airport. We also bought a jar of "ajvar" and "pindjur", I suggest you buy lots of them!
